Submerged surfaces exposed to marine biofouling – Experimental investigation of cleaning parameters effectiveness

چکیده
Physical cleaning, an important factor in maintaining ships' hulls free from biofouling, can help to prolong the lifetime of fouling-control coating systems. This study investigated how mechanical cleaning parameters (cleaning force, duration and frequency) affected antifouling coatings' performance including fouling resistance property efficiency using a specially designed manual system. Meanwhile, surface conditions, visual appearance condition, roughness, contact angle were evaluated detail. Biocide release rates copper-based soluble paint (Cu-AF) under different conditions also assessed by Scanning Electron Microscopy - Energy Dispersive X-ray (SEM-EDX) analysis. Results field testing Danish sea area showed that frequency more than force on performance. Algae glue attachment increased difficulty non-coated acrylic (A-BS) fluorine-based copper insoluble (F-AF). For Cu-AF coated panels, no significant damages observed after cleaning. F-AF, scratches formed related frequency. The biocide various condition between 15.7 24.6 μg Cu cm−2 day−1. Gentle with proper has little influence rate. provides guidance strategies for coatings.

Experimental investigation of the strength of glass fiber-reinforced concrete exposed to high temperature
This study investigated the effects of high temperature exposure on the compressive, tensile, and flexural strengths of concrete containing glass fiber. A total of 108 cubic specimens (150 mm × 150 mm × 150 mm), cylindrical specimens (300 mm × 150 mm), and prismatic specimens (500 mm × 150 mm × 150 mm) were prepared for compressive, tensile, and flexural strength testing, respectively. The spec...
متن کاملEffectiveness of duct cleaning methods on newly installed duct surfaces.
Two kinds of air duct cleaning methods, mechanical brushing with different brushes and compressed air cleaning, were compared in the laboratory and in newly built buildings. The ducts were contaminated either with test dust or with dust originated from a construction site. The amount of dust on the duct surface was measured with the vacuum test method and estimated visually before and after the...
متن کاملMarine biofouling: a sticky problem.
Organisms that colonise underwater surfaces, such as barnacle larvae and spores of algae, use a diverse array of biological 'glues' to provide both temporary and more permanent adhesion. The practical consequence of colonisation by these organisms is biofouling - something that has plagued mariners for years - causing increased drag and, in extreme cases, corrosion. Might there be a biological ...
متن کاملExperimental Investigation on the Deviated Sediment and Flow to Sediment Bypass Tunnels (SBTs) Using Submerged Plates
Sediment Bypass Tunnels (SBTs) are deviant channels that convey the current containing sediments from the upstream of the reservoir to the downstream of the dam. In this research, by applying submerged plates on the entrance of a 90-degree diversion channel for sediment transport, the effect of hydraulic parameters of flow and changes in the angle of plates on sediment transport and deviated fl...
